Louise Ward
Louise Ward joined FOUR PAWS in May 2024 as Programs Lead, where she works with the Australian team to end the cruel trade of puppies and kittens, ban live lamb cutting, stop the import and sale of fur, end factory farming and push for legislative change for
animals.
Before joining FOUR PAWS, Louise was NSW State Director of the Animal Justice Party, where she focused on achieving legal protections for animals. Her commitment to addressing the injustices animals face has been the driving force in her life.
Louise has had a lifelong love for animals, starting from a young age when she was always bringing home stray cats. She didn’t realise the food on her plate came from animals until she met a sweet little lamb who was destined for slaughter. She tried to save
him but couldn’t, and that moment changed everything and she became vegetarian at age 10.
A fateful visit to a dairy farm at age 17 cemented Louise’s commitment to advocating for animals, where she witnessed the legalised suffering and cruelty inflicted on animals. This experience led her to go vegan, and to champion animal protection.
She lives in Sydney’s inner southwest with her dog Josie, eight rescued street cats and a few humans.

Shutting down the global fur trade and ending the import and sale of fur in Australia
FOUR PAWS is working to shut down the global fur trade and end the import and sale of fur in
Australia a trade built entirely on animal suffering. Around the world, we’ve exposed the cruelty
behind fur farming: animals confined to tiny cages, denied natural behaviours, and killed in brutal
ways for fashion. Our international campaigns have helped drive legislative bans and push major
brands to go fur-free. In Australia, while fur farming is banned, fur products are still legally imported
and sold, allowing cruelty to continue unchecked. This legal loophole undermines animal protection
and contradicts public sentiment, which overwhelmingly supports a fur-free future. FOUR PAWS is
calling for national and state legislation to ban the import and sale of fur, ensuring animals are no
longer exploited for profit. Ending the fur trade is a critical step in advancing animal rights and
protecting sentient beings from needless harm.
