The Forum, a yearly event dedicated to animal activism has been held in Australia since the 1970s, this event was initially as single day affair helping to bring together people from across Australia. The event began evolving into the current format from 2009. The forum is typically held in a different city each year, with a tendency to visit Melbourne every other year due to the great venues available and the many activist groups based there.

2010 was a milestone for the activists forum, as we utilised Skype to allow presentations from overseas and interstate and we grew the event into a two day conference. 2011 marked another milestone with concurrent sessions, which has allowed us to present our attendees with a choice of talks.

Over the years we have expanded our event so that we typically have a visit to an animal sanctuary on the Thursday preceding the conference, and a day of activism on the Friday before the event. We also aim to have a social event of some form on the Saturday night. The aim of our event isn’t just to present talks, we really hope to foster networking between activists across Australia, hence why we believe our sanctuary tour, day of activism and social event are a key part of our conference.

Our event had to be cancelled between 2020 and 2023 due to the Covid-19 – a consequence of animal exploitation. However we were very happy with the return and rebranding of our event in 2024.
