Animal Cruelty Under Capitalism

Exploitation is the foundation of capitalism. It is an inherently cruel system that inflicts suffering on humans and animals alike. Capitalism not only overlooks animal cruelty but actively encourages it – the more cruel you are, the further up the food chain you rise.

We will be powerless to combat animal cruelty in all its forms until we understand and confront the role that capitalism plays in how and why that cruelty occurs. Our fight for animal justice begins with the fight to remove the profit motive from animal agriculture, medical research, entertainment, and the companion animal industries.

This session will unpick the capitalist impact on our animal welfare laws and hear about the campaign to establish an independent office of animal welfare in NSW.
