Back after a hiatus. For the first time hosting our Animal Defenders Expo, and the Animal Justice Awards Animal Rights Forum 2024 was a revitalised conference, and enjoyed by all.
Some last changes that weren’t reflected in the agenda: Aline Duerr was unfortunately unavailable; we moved around Doug’s talk so we wouldn’t have a clash of anti-vivisection talks; and we were joined by Monique Dam of Lucy’s Project.
The addition of Monique Dam of Lucy’s Project. Monique’s presentation explored the following issues:
- The impacts of domestic and family violence (DFV) on animals including companion, assistance, farmed and wild animals.
- The link between animal abuse and abuse against people – the co-occurrence of animal abuse and DFV and child abuse.
- Animals are hidden victims of DFV and are not legally recognised as victim-survivors
- What policy, program and legal changes are needed to support animals?
