Unravelling The Hidden Struggles Of The Animal Welfare Volunteer Organisations
This presentation explores the administration and management of animal welfare groups, with a focus on creating a supportive and empathetic environment for volunteers and committees. It addresses the difficult issues often avoided, encouraging open and constructive discussion rather than blame.
Delivered as a facilitated conversation, attendees are invited to share challenges and solutions in a respectful, supportive setting. Common issues such as committee sustainability, volunteer recruitment and retention, and internal conflict are examined, recognising that deep passion for animals can intensify these challenges and harm both organisations and individuals.
Drawing on real-life case studies (anonymised), Glynn will discuss how groups have navigated difficult and volatile situations, made tough decisions, and grown stronger. The presentation also explores how transparency, professionalism, and clear expectations can help prevent future issues—while questioning whether these principles are as simple to apply as often suggested.
