The Better Chicken Commitment: Changing the lives of chickens in the Australian meat industry
Chickens are the most farmed land animal on the planet. In Australia alone, over 700 million are raised and killed for meat every year. And every year, that number is growing. While it’s easy to understand how factory farming living conditions and slaughter methods are cruel, the biggest cause of chicken suffering is largely unknown by the public. That is, selective breeding for rapid growth.
The Better Chicken Commitment is a policy initiative animal advocates are already using around the world to successfully achieve real change for chickens at scale. April will explain the BCC, why it’s the most impactful way to help chickens who are suffering in factory farms now, and share more about the work that Better Chicken Australia is doing to push back against industry norms.
