Aimee has a bachelor’s degree in International Politics and a master’s in environmental management and policy, focusing her thesis on the international policy failings to protect the southern bluefin tuna from imminent distinction. She has been involved in animal advocacy and volunteer work for over a decade, which eventually led to her being involved in the legislative and political environment that supports improvements for the plight of all animals.
Hands on activism, policy and change
In this space we often find ourselves wondering or trying to find the most effective way to advocate for animals in the modern and changing world. With over ten years’ experience in animal rescue and “hands on” activism, I always knew that these roles were important, but had to occur in parallel with advocating for policy and legislative change. At the end of the day, at the same time as changing hearts and minds, we need to affect decision makers too.
I am keen to share my experience working in different legislative environments for my 9-5 while volunteering and advocating for animals outside of work.
Eventually I found myself in my dream job as Chief of Staff to AJP MP Georgie Purcell, and there are so many lessons and challenges that keep us adjusting our approach and strategy.
If you have questions like what’s is really like in Parliament? How does a minor party MP really create change? Can you maintain your activist roots while working in politics? Then this is the session for you.
